Tuesday Psalm 8

This is a Psalm we sing - many of them are. So those are very familiar to us. Verses 5 &6 are quoted a lot too about us having been made a "little lower than God and crown us with glory and honor and gave us charge over everything you made......". My translation is different than I am used to reading but it makes things so clear that we are created by God to represent Him here on earth. I always wonder what it would be like if we actually acted like He made us to act - able to do and affect so much here on earth. We act so helpless at times - not stepping into the authority God has given us. I think we are afraid it won't work or that we are overstepping our bounds or....I don't really know what we think. BUT the key is to remember that HE CREATED ME!!! I am spiritual and earthly - and I just don't let the spiritual part of me rule as much as I should. It is so easy to let the natural or earthly part of me be the one in authority instead of the spiritual part of me. This chapter reminds me that He will be praised in everything and name is what fills this earth - it is all here because He created it!!!
Lord, open my eyes to your spirit more that what my natural eyes can see!!! Let my faith in you be what motivates my actions moment by moment!!!
How do you see the authority God has given us???

I love Psalm 8. This Psalm also just reminds me of the sovereignty of God. v. 1--He is high above it all. v. 2-he'll even use babies to exalt Him and He deals with our enemies and avengers...He is sovereign over enemies of our faith too and I need to obey Him and when someone wrongs me, He is the God of recompense and already above it all so I don't need to do any payback..just need to worry about keeping my own heart right with God. v 3-5-even in all of His authority and awesomeness, He loves us and wants intimate relationship with us and made us for relationship with Him first and then to build his kingdom second. v. 6-9 and He made us like Him in His image and have given us all authority to do His will on this earth. ALL things are under His feet. I love that...there isn't one thing on this earth, not one thing that I go through that doesn't fall under His Kingdom, His rule, and His sovereignty. He is a trustworthy God and I might as well rest my whole life in His hands b/c He has charge over it all anyway...and living in relationship with Him is so wonderful that why would we want another way?

Vs 1&2 in the Message Remix bible reads, "God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name. Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you, toddlers shout the songs that drown out enemy talk and silence atheist babble." First, are God's names household names in my/our home? Or are lack, sickness, fear, etc. household names in my/our home?

Songs of praise to God in the mouths of babies and toddlers are powerful! It says the songs drown out enemy talk. As moms we can attest to the fact that babies and toddlers can drown out talk when they are crying or talking because they need/want attention...so how much more powerful is it when we teach them to sing to the Lord!

vs 3-4 talk about the night sky and God's "handmade sky-jewelry." The stars are brilliant diamonds in the crisp, night African sky. And every time I see the stars in a sky unhindered by city lights, the awesomeness of God takes my breath away...who am I in the skeem of life? As totally beautiful and awesome the night sky in Africa is ....God sees each of us even MORE beautiful and awesome. As Pastor Jerry shared Sunday, God would sell all of this and more for me... for you!

Psalm 8 ends with ..."God, brilliant Lord, your name echoes around the world."
