Psalm 33

Two themes stand out to me in Psalm 33. First, God is faithful and His word dependable! Verse 4 –“For the word of the Lord holds true and everything He does is worthy of our trust.” God does not forget or change His word or His mind…He is the same yesterday, today, and forever … and because of this, we can rejoice and praise Him and trust Him totally. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19 NLT)

Second, God is in control! Verses 10-17 – “God shatters the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes…God’s plans stand firm forever, His intentions can never be shaken…God observes everyone on earth … He understands everything we do because He made our hearts. We are not to count on our warhorse (our military strength…our physical power) to give us victory.” Now more than ever, we need to pray for our nation, for our President, for all of those in authority over us … first of all that they know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior; and second for them to be surrounded by Godly men and women, whose hearts and ears are tuned into the voice of God. Happy are the people (nation) whose God is the Lord!

That is really good. I love the verse 10-11 that says that He makes the plans of nations and man to nothing (our plans without Him don't matter...I'm thinking of the verse "man plans his way but the Lord orders His steps.") It goes on to say that "the counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations." I love that b/c when we really wait on Him to hear His voice, He won't let us fail or let us down...His plans are for all generations and His counsel is always right.

I also like v. 13-15 that He looks down on all of us and sees each one of us (I guess never too busy to keep His eye on us...He's a good father) and says "He fashions their hearts individually. He considers all their works." I find great comfort in the fact that He fashioned my heart just perfectly for the works He created me to do, and He made me just how He wanted me for relationship with Him. That is a great verse that spoke to me.
