Tuesday Psalm 111 & 127

Chapter 111 vs 3 & 4 "Everything He does reveals His glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails. He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord."
Everything means everything - not one thing escapes from the word "everything". Our days are filled with things that reveal His glory and majesty. Just the fact that we woke up breathing is an example. That you felt an emotion today is majestic - I mean - everything about His creation is full of wonder. This Psalm makes you remember and take note that our lives are filled with the wonders of what God created. We can make it so mundane but He makes it full of His glory and majesty. I love the way God works to put things together and to prepare you for what His plans are for your life. Even tonight as I was praying for a sister friend I could sense that God knows just what He is doing and that He just wants to show us His glory!!! We just don't choose to see that glory - but it is all around us!!!
Psalm 127 is one of my favorite Psalms. It has kept me many times from taking things into my own hands when it really belonged in God's hands. "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it......" This can be almost anything in our lives but I have related it to the House of the Lord. Except He builds it in His way, we waste our time trying to do it our way. His way is so much better. The problem we have is that we don't always see things as He sees them and we try to build it our way and that's why we get tired and quit. When we do things His way, He provides food and rest and we aren't tired but we are refreshed!!!
Then verse the rest of this chapter are always such an encouragement to me that He directs our children' s lives. We hold the bow and shoot the arrow but He steers it to the right target. And those kids are a gift from God for us to take care of and nourish and treasure. I'm glad my "quiver" was full with 2 kids - some of us have bigger "quivers"!!!

From the beauty of a sunrise or sunset or full moon, to the majestic mountains or the power of the ocean, to the patterns on a giraffe or stripes on a zebra, to the miracle of a tiny crocus pushing through the snow to bloom, to the tiny fingers and toes of a new born baby, in the people God brings into our lives … I am in awe of God! I always wonder how anyone can say there is no God. His majesty is revealed all around us! Psalm 111:10, “Reverence for the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.” Unless we acknowledge God as the source of wisdom, earthly wisdom will be a shaky basis on which to make decisions and choices in our lives. Reverence for the Lord … respect, awe, worship … we cannot become wise by experience or academic knowledge alone.

Psalm 127:3, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” What an awesome thing for God to entrust children into our care, both as parents and within the church. Children are so trusting and so eager to learn, and God many times uses them to teach us about Him! We began telling our children at birth, you are valuable and precious to God and to us and He has a plan and purpose for your life! That’s easy to say when they are being little angels, but it is even more valuable to say to them when they are not quite so sweet. We need to tell children this, no matter their age!

Lord, as we go about our lives today, open our eyes to your presence. Thank you for the children you have blessed us with…give us your wisdom as we raise them to be men and women who love you, serve you, and bring honor and glory to you. Amen.

I love how -- in the midst of this psalm recounting the miraculous splendor and works of God, verse 9 includes 4 wonderful words: "He's so personal" (Message). God HAS created SO many amazing, incredible things; and it IS mind boggling that some people don't recognize Him as Creator. But even more so, they're missing out on the fact that God made THEM and wants to be personal with them, that we're His best creation! What a comforting realization, a life affirmation! Thank You, God, for being a personal, loving God in my life! Help me to convey that love to others! I love You!

Oh Susan, this post was just lovely...and timely. I love the line "not one thing escapes from the word 'everything'" because I so often think that something has managed to escape His notice. Thanks for the encouragement!
