As a child, school went too slowly and summers too quickly...it took forever to reach 16 so I could drive a car...and 60 sounded REALLY old! Now that I’m 62, 120 sounds old!!! Psalm 90 contrasts God’s eternal nature to man’s frailty. God has no beginning or end. God is not limited by time...a thousand years are as yesterday, like a few hours! God is all knowing, all present, all powerful! God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is here for the duration! God is not a man that He should lie but watches over His word to perform it in our lives. We can depend on God for every detail of our life!
Man, on the other hand, will return to dust, is like grass that dies away, and our beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of flowers in a field. One look in the mirror, without makeup on, can attest to that...so let the inner beauty shine! Our time on earth is limited.
Father, help me/us to make the most of our time on this earth...to use our lives for eternal good...to let our hearts be touched by what touches your heart...to be laborers in the lives of the people you bring across our path daily...to be light in darkness, hope where there is no hope, love where there is no love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen to your prayer, Arlene. This Psalm sure does a good job of showing us how "nothing" we are without the Lord. Our society tries to tell us how wonderful we are and how we are to be like "Gods" and even though there is truth to believing we "can do all through things", we have to always remember who made us and in whose image we were created. It is all because of Him that there are even being like us on this earth. And I know that if we keep the right perspective - Big God in Little Me - then even though our days are short, we will be able to be all that He wants us to be while we are here!!!!
I know we all feel like Katy does out there in Uganda - helpless and without the tools to do much good - but all He asks of us is to make ourselves available so He can work through us. I made myself available by coming to Lincoln. Katy is making herself available in Uganda. Arlene made herself available by saying "yes" to working at church at a job much less than she had before. Kirsten said "yes" to coming to LCC to pastor young girls........I could go on and on but I think you get my point. Just say "yes" and remember who asked you and promised to fulfill His purposes in you!!! Even though you might only live one day like a blade of grass!!!
I liked verse 12 that says "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." There is no guarantee of tomorrow and this verse reminds me of that. I think it is so encouraging that it says to teach us to number our days and living everyday to it's fullest, not wasting any days actually can make us wise. It also reminds me that we do the possible, and God does the impossible. We make good choices each day, never living with the thought of "there is always tomorrow", and God will give us a heart of wisdom. The good choices I'm trying to make each day is just to spend time in the word, in prayer, to have a good attitude with my kids no matter what i feel like inside, to have a good attitude with my husband, to have a joyful home, peaceful home so my kids can walk in joy and peace, etc by making the choice to wake up joyful and with peace no matter how stressed I really feel! This verse reminds me of that to live each day to it's fullest making good decisions because those good decisions all build on each other to be a life filled with good decisions and it says here when I live that way I will gain wisdom!
