Hebrews 8 & 9 ~ Tuesday

Every Wednesday morning in our neighborhood is trash day, and dumpsters dot the ends of driveways up and down the street. Inevitably, around 11:30 in the morning the company that picks up our household's trash grunts and puffs to a stop at our driveway and swallows up all the dirty diapers, junk mail, food tidbits and anything else that hasn't managed to escape my toss-it-don't-keep-it hands.

The great thing --- the garbage truck actually takes AWAY our trash.

We don't roll our dumpster out to the curb and then at the end of the day, roll it back to the house, still full of stinking, rotting ick.

Likewise, the NEW covenant of which Jesus fulfilled and is High Priest, takes AWAY my sin. No longer only covered over by the blood sacrifices of animals; my sins are actually sent away, and i am released from their bondage.

Hebrews 9:22 says, "And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission."

Purified. Katharizo: Cleanse. Cleanness. Purify.

Remission. Aphesis; aphiemi: To send away. A release from bondage or imprisonment. Deliverance. Liberty.

It's one thing to cleanse your kitchen and bathrooms of garbage; it's another to stand at the curb and refuse to let the garbage man haul it away. The service has been paid for. The garbage man has the authority to dump and bury it in a landfill to which no one else has access.

Thank You, Jesus, for making the ultimate sacrifice to shed Your blood so that i am cleansed of my sin ... AND freed from it, as well.

What a great analogy Heather. Perfect picture of what God does and how we respond. Thank you Jesus for trash day!!!
