Proverbs 22

I love verse 6 "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." This verse is so convicting for me. Sometimes as a mom I just feel like I'm failing b/c I can start feeling like I have too many things on my plate and then I feel like my kids get whatever I have leftover. Sometimes I just get emotionally drained and then I definitely don't feel like I'm "training" them up in the way they should go. It is so difficult. I need to read this verse every day to remember what is the most important thing in my life. Training my kids are more important than all of it, and I need to keep that my focus. I want my kids to know the way they should go. The other verse I liked is verse 15 "foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him." I want to train my kids so they know the way to go and so they are wise and have a right heart toward God. I could read these verses every day. It's funny that it says foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child--I feel like a foolish adult sometimes! I guess that is what happens in areas of our life that we don't deal with when we are young! I want to help my kids deal with those areas in their life, but I guess that means I need to actually be a grown up! Anyway, I like these verses that are full of wisdom, and they always really convict me.

As I read these verses I looked at them differently since I'm no longer raising my own kids. I can't go back and redo what I have already done. But I do remember that I had to keep in focus the goal I was pursuing for my kids.....and that was to raise them to be God Fearing adults that then raised their own kids with these verses in mind. Keeping the future in mind and not just looking at the present keeps you focused on the things that are important. Our jobs are full time and that's why we get tired - it is 24/7 and with little pay - just the reward of grandchildren and children that "rise up and call you blessed"!!!
Keep up the good work - all you young moms - you will soon be me - a grandma, or nana, who is so proud of the children she raised and the grandchildren she now can just love and play with!!!

Ah, yes...the joy of being a Meme or a Nana! Parenting is not for sissys! I remember saying to my children, "How many times have I told you...," and simultaneously heard God say to me, "How many times have I told you..." God trains us even as we train our children! Training happens through Bible stories, songs, memorizing scripture (my children's..Andrew's for sure... first memorized scripture was Eph 6:1 & 3) but also as we lead by example 24/7 ... our kindness and tenderness in action and words... how we treat those in authority, cashiers, meal servers (ouch!) ... in traffic (ouch!) Sometimes we feel we are failing ... but not to worry...just listen and watch and hear and see the fruit of our labor. As we consistently (for the 100th time!) plant seed and water it (with the rod of correction at times) ... God will bring forth fruit.

Oh my word, almost every single time i discipline or correct or instruct Tessa about something, i feel like God is saying that very same thing to me as to what i need to be doing in my relationship and responsibilities with Him!! =)
And.... even when, as moms, we feel doubts that we are spending enough time with this or that with our kids - one thing i remember is that we've dedicated them to the Lord. They are His. As we're faithful parents with the moments God gives us, He is faithful to watch over their life paths and to speak to their hearts!
