Proverbs 18

Good Sunday morning - or afternoon - or evening - it IS a Great Day!!!

Right off the bat look at vs 1 and it will tell you why there are "unfriendly people" in the world. They care only about themselves and lash out at common sense!!!
How true that is!!!

Here is another one I like - vs 10 - "The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe." All we have to do is call out His Name and we can feel the security He brings. I have found myself doing that a lot lately. "Jesus - help me know what to do." "Jesus - only you know what is ahead." And then there are days when all I can say is "Jesus........"! But I know things are ok when I place them in His hands. His name is a strong fortress - nothing can harm me or come near me and I am safe from all danger. My part is to "run" to him and then I will be safe. Just run - don't go slow or even think about it - just run - to Him!!!

One more - vs 16 - "giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people".
One thing my mom and dad taught me to do is to take a gift to people when I visit them. This is something other nationalities are really good at. Here in the States we don't think about it as much. But I have found it doesn't really matter what the gift is, a mug or a book or chocolates....(Arlene's favorite) but the fact that I brought a gift is what makes an impression and actually does "open doors". Giving, in and of itself, opens doors. Some people are really good at this and others - like me - aren't necessarily stingy, we just don't think about taking a gift. BUT I AM GETTING BETTER and I know it is something that God does for me so I need to do it for others. When you get a gift it makes you feel special and set apart. God gave His Son - gifts are His way of opening doors for us on every level.
Try it - give a gift this week - to someone, anyone, and see how they open up!!!

The first verse stuck out to me "A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment." this is why accountability is so important. There is wisdom in the counsel of many, and sometimes what looks right in our own eyes can be so far from right, but when we are surrounded by counselors, not isolated, we have people help keep us in check so we can walk confidently, knowing that we have people walking along side of us that know if all and still love us, and will tell us the truth and not let us make unwise decisions.

Another one is verse 4 "The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook." You can tell alot about what's in someone's heart by what comes out of there mouth....and you can just tell a lot about someone by knowing what kind of things they talk about b/c it is an indicator of who we are on the inside. I have a friend where everything that comes out of her mouth is literally wisdom. I love hearing her heart b/c it ministers to me every time we talk. The word is so deep in her it just flows out...I never, ever, ever, hear gossip, backbiting, chatty-chatty about "oh I heard this" and "so and so said this". I love this verse not only b/c it reminds me of her, but reminds me that I want to be like that too....but it starts from the inside. We've all got to make sure our heart is right, checking motives, etc, b/c if we have it right on the inside, then our mouth will bless people.
