Abraham and Sarah's lifestyle of growing faith continues to amaze and encourage me!
It's only chapter 20, and God has spoken, covenanted, shared a meal, thrown Sodom numbers around and otherwise just shown up in Abraham's life. Surely, by now, Abraham is fairly bursting with the power of God!
Yet when Abraham and Sarah reached Abimelech's place, they still perpetuated the lie that Sarah was just his sister, not his wife also.
Abraham's reasoning to Abimelech simultaneously grabbed my attention and then elbowed me in my flabby faith muscles: "Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife" (20:11).
But wouldn't the fear of God, the power of God, the promises of God that were residing in Abraham and Sarah far overpower any evil or outweigh any lack of fear of God in Abimelech's place?
That's one of the lessons I'm taking home from this reading.
Remembering, like Sarah posted yesterday, the many words and prophecies God has already spoken to me. And going forward into the places God has for me this year because He's greater. And He's with me. And He already has the future, the promises resting snugly in His hands.
2 other side lessons for me today --- what do you all think about them?
1) Sarah's submission to Abraham -- did she perpetuate their little brother/sister lie out of submission to him, resting in God to protect her even though her husband wasn't leading well at the moment? Or did she jump to claim sister status out of fear?
2) Abraham AND Isaac trusting God at Sacrifice Time .... being willing to give even my children to God -- and teaching them, in the process, to trust and obey Him -- in whatever ways that applies today when they're little, tomorrow when they're tweens, the next when they're teens....
Speaking of, there's one crying now.
Thanking God for His patience, love and promises,

I believe Sarah had a little of both boing thru her mind when she agreed to fake out the King. I know I would. If my husband is fearful it makes me fearful. But because it was the idea of her husband I do believe the Lord protected her in her decision.
As far as giving my kids to God, that is something I have to do daily and sometimes hourly!!! He gave them to me to train and now they are training their own kids....trusting them to do a great job is something I have to remind myself of all the time....I did a good job, and so will they. My grandkids are proof!!!
God is the only person with them 24/7!!! And He loves them more than we ever could. So, we have to trust Him with their lives!
Great Post!!!
