Today begins our church's 21 day Daniel Fast. There are many Christians fasting and praying this month to put God First in this new year. The Bible is full of "first" examples and this is just one way we can show the Lord we want Him FIRST in our lives in 2010.
In our reading today in Matt 8 Jesus talks about the cost of following Him. As I was reading the excuses that were given....I have to go home and bury my father......I have to go say goodbye to my friends.....I began to see that the cost of any relationship is different to each of us.
Marriage relationship is a sacrifice.....you have to learn to share with someone....let the other one have the TV remote......share a bed with them....share the car......it's different for everyone but there is sacrifice for each person in that relationship. Relationsip costs!!!
But cost is a good thing. We value what we have to pay for and God knows that about us. If we don't have to sacrifice then we tend to not treasure.
In these days of fasting and praying there is a cost. We are setting aside our need for food and filling that need with prayer and time with God. We aren't fasting or sacrificing to get God's attention but for us to be reminded of the cost of our relationship with Him. He loved us so much that He gave His Son....all we have to do is believe and receive. BUT it's not all about us...and when we fast we put Him and our relationship with Him before our needs.
In the next 21 days expect to experience Him in a new and refreshing way. He is there....we are just taking time to seek Him!
