Romans 12:1 really spoke to me today, settled me and also encouraged me! The Message translation says:
Take your everyday, ordinary life -- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life -- and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.
For me and the life i currently lead with my young children at home, it seems that a successful day is one where we sleep a good night's sleep, eat meals and snacks, do our "work" at home, walk around in a daze ....
And sometimes i personally get to feeling that i'm not doing anything much for God (even though i know better). That feeling leads to feelings of anxiety (not the suffocating kind, just the little touch of stress, unsettledness) which leads to a grouchy girl.
But what a relief to be reminded again of the fact that living the life God has so lovingly and purposefully put me into, is my act of worship to Him! It's my offering to Him!
I love that --- "Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him." Wow, that just brings such joy and relief and contentment -- and love for God -- to my heart! I can do this! I can sleep and eat and walk around, ministering to my husband, taking care of the children He's entrusted to us, of the home He's placed us in ... and please God!
I just wish the Message Bible had been more specific on the "eating" part.... then I could include those M&M's on my shopping list tomorrow!

PS =)
Romans 12:2 is so good to follow up with the reminder:
"Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out...."
There's always a balance, isn't there? I shouldn't get so far past absorbed in my children, for example, even though i'm raising them for eternal purposes, and totally forget my relationship with God.
That's very easy for me to do -- after a long day with the kids, it's hard to get up earlier than they do to have time with God... or to give up an occasional nap at naptime to focus on Him. Or to become to busy doing things...
Guess if i'm bringing my life as offering to God, i need to be there! =)
